TITLE: Accounting Clerk
LOCATION: Urbana School District’s Central Office
SUPERVISOR: The Accounting Clerk position reports directly to the Director of Accounting as the designee of the Chief Financial Officer.
JOB SUMMARY: The responsibility of the Accounting Clerk to perform general accounting functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Reconcile bank statements
- Performs accounting data input and prepare Trust checks
- Directly work with the District’s Transportation provider for billing, field trips, transportation claim, and initial communication
- Maintain and enter EBA and ABA filings
- Make cash deposits and enter cash receipts
- Prepare journal entries
- Prepare invoices for outside companies
- Maintain student fee management and assist with schools on obtaining outstanding obligations
- Research and adjust incorrect account entries and expedites encumbered purchase orders
- Sort mail for Business office as needed
- Provides support to the Accounts Payable Clerk
- Performs other related duties consistent with the position
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Associate’s Degree in Accounting required, BS in Accounting/Business/Finance preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of bookkeeping/clerical experience
- Experience with software database, Word, and Excel
- General knowledge of office equipment operations

- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in regard to student and staff records.
- Ability to multi-task and handle interruptions.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a variety of different personnel at the District.
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
- Must possess the ability to handle conflict in a productive manner.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary is commensurate with experience; twelve-month position; 8 hours per day.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of support personnel.
NOTE: This is not a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position. This is a non-exempt position.
