TITLE: Pit Director of the Spring Musical

 

LOCATION:  Urbana High School

 

SUPERVISOR:  Building Principal or Designee 

 
JOB DESCRIPTION:  Spring Musical Pit Orchestra Director: This position works with the production team of the UHS Spring Musical (director, technical director, vocal director, and choreographer) throughout the course of the production.  Schedules will be coordinated by this team.  The position will recruit instrumentalists to play in the pit with the help of members of the USD #116 Music Department.  This position will set up at least 5 rehearsals of the pit with the purpose of preparing the music before meeting with the cast.  Additional rehearsals for sitzprobe and tech week will be coordinated with the production team.  This position will conduct the pit rehearsals, the combined rehearsals of cast and pit during tech week, and the 5 public performances of the show.  This position is also responsible for coordinating with the UHS Music Department to secure any instruments/amps that might be needed for this particular pit.  Coordination of the moving of equipment to and from the pit is also a responsibility of this position.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The performance dates are Thursday, May 1 at 7:00 PM; Friday, May 2 at 7:00 PM; Saturday, May 3 at 7:00 PM; and Sunday, May 4 at 2:00 PM.  Tech Week dates generally fall during the week before the show's first performance, but are not set at this point.  The 5 pit rehearsals are scheduled by the pit orchestra director in coordination with the members of the pit.  These can start as soon as the pit music is available (generally 5-6 weeks ahead of the first performance).
 
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION

  • College degree.  Music degree prefered.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience teaching and conducting a pit orchestra.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  • Highly organized
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent problem-solver
  • Should be able to work with students with a history of behavior or learning problems
  • Proven to work under pressure and can prioritize multiple tasks

PAYMENT: This is a stipend position
