TITLE: Minority Enrichment Program Coordinator
LOCATION: Urbana High School
HOURS: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
SUPERVISOR: Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction
JOB SUMMARY: The individual is responsible for assisting minority students enrolled in enriched classes who are weighted with achieving and maintaining academic success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily, including:
- Work with the district’s counselors to develop a caseload of minority students enrolled in weighted classes.
- Initiate and hold mandatory meetings with students on caseload whose grades fall below a B average.
- Respond to referrals from teachers regarding issues pertaining to students on caseload.
- Provide tutorial assistance weekly to students on caseload.
- Provide assistance to students on caseload with projects and assignments.
- Network with students enrolled in teacher education programs at the University of Illinois to solicit academic support for students on caseload.
- Initiate weekly mandatory meetings with students on caseload to monitor academic progress and to address any issues as they arise.
- Make oneself available to assist students on caseload between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM on a daily basis.
- Maintain exceptional academic skills in the core academic areas of Math, Science, and English.
- Monitor the attendance and/or academic progress of student caseload.
- Guide and direct African American Club, Asian American Club, and the Latino American Club
- Provide assistance and support to teachers with students on caseload.
- Prepare a year-end report to the Assistant Principal detailing the status of students on caseload.
- Possess and maintain knowledge of the contents of the Student Handbook.
- Possess and maintain a working knowledge of the District’s policies and procedures pertaining to students.
- Provide leadership and direction to students and assist them with developing a positive self-image.
- Work with counselors on identifying minority students in non-weighted classes who could move to weighted classes with support
- Assist with duties assigned to the Assistant Principal
- Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 1 year of secretarial or clerical experience preferred
- Experience with typing, computers, answering phones, word processing, Excel spreadsheets, software database systems, and working with office equipment such as copiers and fax machines

- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public
- Ability to handle conflict in a productive manner
- Maintain strict confidentiality in regard to student and personnel records
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to handle and prioritize a high volume of transactions
- Ability to multi-task and handle interruptions
- Ability to meet payroll deadlines
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a variety of personnel
- Strong public relations skills and ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary is determined by the Board of Education. Ten-month work year.
EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluating support personnel.
