TITLE: Adult Education Student Advisor

 

LOCATION: Urbana Adult Education Center

 

HOURS: Mondays and Wednesdays: 7:45-5:00

Tuesdays and Thursdays: 7:45-8:15

(1 hour unpaid lunch each day)

Fridays: OFF

 

SCHEDULE: 210 days/10 months

 

SUPERVISOR: Director of Adult Education

 

SUPERVISES:  Not Applicable

 

JOB SUMMARY: The Student Advisor promotes and enhances the overall academic mission of the Urbana School District #116 and the Urbana Adult Education Center by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. The Student Advisor supports the social, emotional, academic, and transition needs of Urbana Adult Education students. 



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

 

  • Provide assertive outreach and act as a liaison between students, families, staff and community agencies.
  • Assess students to determine their need for support services and address the social and emotional needs of students based on assessment.
  • Teach classes and/or workshops related to life skills, transition planning, employability skills, organizational skills, and/or career planning.
  • Provide ongoing support for students on your advisory roster. 
  • Establish and maintain home/school ties for students and work with families concerning home situations that relate to school performance.
  • Provide assistance to teachers or teams in planning to meet the needs of students.
  • Assist with student registration procedures.
  • Conduct student orientation.
  • Assist with credit/transcript reviews, Record Sheet creation, attendance data entry, and other student related data entry requirements. 
  • Assist with data collection and analysis.
  • Assist with student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Participate in efforts to remediate student truancy and behavior challenges.
  • Maintain records memorializing support services offered and rendered.
  • Maintain communication with appropriate community agencies and aid in finding solutions to community-wide problems that affect students and families.
  • Evaluate and refer students and their families to appropriate resources within the community.
  • Adhere to laws and procedures involving child abuse/neglect and cooperate with community agencies to identify the need for protective services for school-age children. 
  • Participate in professional growth activities including workshops, institutes, seminars.



QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, education, or psychology, or related fields. A Master’s degree is preferred. 

 

EXPERIENCE

Two years or more of school-based and/or social service experience preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months; Tentative Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000 with Master’s degree; final salary offer will be contingent upon education and experience.

 

EVALUATION:  To be completed by the Director using a district-approved evaluation instrument.

NOTE: This is a non-exempt, non-bargaining unit, and non-administrative position.
