Title:  District AVID District Director

 

LOCATION:  Urbana School District (multiple locations)

 

SUPERVISOR:  Director of Curriculum and Student Learning

 

JOB SUMMARY:  The role of the AVID District Director is to help support and implement the components of the AVID program at Urbana Middle School and Urbana High School.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Communicates information about AVID activities in a timely manner and encourages and supports administrators’ and teachers’ attendance at ongoing professional learning events throughout the year.
  • Acts as a liaison between the district central office and AVID Center.
  • Oversees AVID implementation and coordinates support for Urbana Middle School and Urbana High School.
  • Provides programmatic, philosophical, moral, and financial support to AVID within the district.
  • Approves and submits certification documents and site-level data for all active sites.
  • Visits, coaches, guides, and supports implementation sites and staff to reach certification.
  • Collaborates with AVID Site Coordinators on identifying and interviewing potential new students for AVID and creating Welcome Nights for families.
  • Facilitates vertical and horizontal articulation meetings between elementary, middle, and high schools within the district.
  • Coordinates registration and travel arrangements for all attendees of Summer Institute.
  • Attends AVID professional learning (Summer Institute, AVID District Leadership Training, etc. each year)
  • Uses the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework as a lens to support students and staff.

Qualifications:  

 

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited college or university, with certifications and endorsements as applicable

EXPERIENCE

  • Professional Educator License
  • Current employee at Urbana School District
  • Knowledge about instructional practices, curriculum, and assessment and formally trained in AVID
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience

LICENSES/CREDENTIAL:

  • Valid Illinois Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Annual Stipend $2000
