TITLE:  21st CCLC / SPLASH Before or After School Teacher

 

LOCATION:  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School

 

SUPERVISOR:  This position reports directly to the Program Coordinator, and building administration.

 

JOB SUMMARY:  The Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate learning environment during before or afterschool programming. Teachers will be responsible for engaging students in creative and fun instruction in core content and enrichment areas.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Prepare creative and engaging lessons for day to day instruction and enrichment activities.
  • Implement lessons in a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that assists students assigned to the classroom with achieving specific educational goals.
  • Create a classroom environment that is welcoming to all students.
  • Collaborate with support staff assigned to the classroom to develop general classroom procedures, goals, schedules, behavioral expectations and classroom activities for students.
  • Plan and implement activities inside and outside of the classroom that expose a child to a variety of learning experiences and broaden the child’s perspective.
  • Implement appropriate assessments and document student progress as required by the building administrator and 21st CCLC grant. 
  • Take daily attendance and complete other required documentation as assigned. 
  • Review, develop, and requisition materials for the classroom.
  • Work in partnership with the Coordinator to plan and encourage family involvement in the education of their children.
  • Supervise students as assigned by the Principal and/ or program coordinator.
  • Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by the Leadership Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited college or university, with certifications and endorsements as applicable

EXPERIENCE

  • Classroom experience preferred
  • Prior experience working in the 21st CCLC/SPLASH Program preferred but not required
  • Internal applicants only

LICENSES/CREDENTIAL:

  • Valid Illinois Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to assess children and knowledge of childhood development
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively on a collaborative team
  • Ability to effectively work with students with a history of behavioral, social/emotional and/or developmental disabilities 
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and responses

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Daily hours TBD, Monday-Thursday
  • Position is for school year programming only when the program is in session.
  • Attendance at an orientation meeting is expected prior to the start of the program. 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of  the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

 

START & END DATE:  To Be Determined by the Building Administration and the program coordinator.

 

NOTE:

  • This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
  • Position contingent upon grant funding.
