TITLE: Kindergarten Readiness Camp Teacher (Multiple Positions Available)
LOCATION: Thomas Paine Elementary School
SUPERVISOR: Family Engagement and Kindergarten Coordinator in collaboration with the Director of Family Engagement and Student Supports
JOB SUMMARY: The Summer Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate summer learning environment for incoming Kindergarten students. Teachers will be responsible for engaging students in creative and fun instruction in core content areas along with social emotional needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Prepare creative and engaging lessons for day to day summer instruction.
- Implement lessons in a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that assists students assigned to the classroom with achieving specific educational goals.
- Create a classroom environment that is welcoming to all students.
- Collaborate with support staff assigned to the classroom to develop general classroom procedures, goals, schedules, behavior expectation and classroom activities for students.
- Plan and implement activities inside and outside of the classroom that expose a child to a variety of experiences to broaden a child’s perspective.
- Implement appropriate assessments and document student progress as required by the building administrator/immediate supervisor.
- Review, develop, and requisition materials for the classroom.
- Work in partnership with the Kindergarten Coordinator to plan and encourage family involvement in the education of their children.
- Supervise students as assigned by the Principal and/ immediate supervisor.
- Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by the Leadership Team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited college or university, with certifications and endorsements as applicable
EXPERIENCE
- Classroom experience preferred
- Prior experience working the Summer Program preferred
- Internal applicants only
LICENSES/CREDENTIAL:
- Valid Illinois Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to assess children and knowledge of childhood development
- Ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a collaborative team
- Ability to effectively work with students with a history of behavioral, social/emotional and/or developmental disabilities
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and responses
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Daily hours 8:00am-12:00pm, Monday-Friday, August 5-9, 2024
- Hourly pay $32 with 4 hours of pay for planning
- Position is for Summer Programming only when the program is in session.
- Planning and meeting time is expected prior to the start of the program.
- Orientation meeting scheduled prior to the start of the program
